Ahhhh... FALL!

What a welcome relief the cooler weather is after our extremely hot summer. Our four-legged friends seem to be enjoying the milder days, too.

The arrival of Fall is a good time to get your animals ready for the colder weather. Every year when the season's change, we treat many horses with colic-like symptoms. Pay special attention to your horse's water intake. Access to clean, fresh water at a temperature that encourages your horse to drink is just as important during cold weather — and maybe more so — than during the heat. The same is true for your dogs, cats, goats and cows. Dehydration and its accompanying problems can occur any time of the year.

We also see a lot of horses — especially older ones — that have trouble adjusting to the colder temperatures because they cannot maintain body condition. If your horse is prone to losing weight during the winter, now is the time to get them in the best shape possible so you're not trying to pay catch-up when the weather gets really bad.

Regular dental work, parasite control, feed adjustments and proper supplementation are the main things that can help keep your horse healthy through the winter. Through December, we're offering a $99 SPECIAL on dental floats and parasite testing. Just call 501-556-5355 to make an appointment.

 — Happy holidays to you and your family,
Drs. Mike and Karen Pallone and staff

Clinic Among Sponsors of
Barrel Race Benefiting Hearts & Hooves

Pallone Veterinary Hospital was a sponsor for the first “Lucky Heart Barrel Race” benefiting Hearts & Hooves, a therapeutic riding center in Sherwood, Ark. The race brought in almost $5,000.
The race was held at the White County Fairgrounds in Searcy and had over 200 runs in its first year. Event organizers are planning to expand it to two days next year.
Drs. Mike and Karen Pallone and Donna Horn, office manager, volunteered at the event. Dr. Mike serves on the board of directors for Hearts & Hooves.
Other sponors for the race included Greenway, The Ashley Group, Big Dog Homes, Landers, Silver Spurs, Bevans DDS and KLB Enterprises.

BBQ Dinner at Arkansas State Championship Horse Show says "Thanks"

To show our appreciation to all our clients and friends attending the Arkansas State Championship Horse Show, we hosted a BBQ dinner with all the fixin's on Saturday during the show.
The state show is held every year during Labor Day weekend at the fairgrounds in Little Rock. Net proceeds from this event benefit Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
It was great to see and visit with everyone. We appreciate you stopping by!

The "Pallone ladies" — (from left) Cindy Dennis, Kim Marsh and Michelle Hammons — get ready to serve the BBQ.

RIGHT: The guys had the grill fired up! BELOW: Lots of state show participants stopped by to visit and enjoy a bite.
